Some background…
I was that kid who grew up with a camera in hand, ever ready to capture random scenes of interest, documenting family events both somber and celebratory, chronicling adventures, friendships, milestones and the mundane, generally playing around with whatever equipment – photo, video, filmmaking – I could get my hands on. As far as preoccupations go, it was fascinating, it was frustrating at times, it was uniquely satisfying, it was a career choice made easy.
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in commercial photography, I shot advertising photos for a while, went to work for a TV station, earned a master’s degree in filmmaking and video, took a photo/video job at a newspaper, and eventually added teaching to the mix.
The process of capturing images, whether photos or video, is still just as fascinating now as when I was a kid, the satisfaction just as strong. As a career choice, this one is a keeper.
